US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing more icebreakers to patrol off the coast of Canada, NBC reported, citing current and former US officials.

According to this TV channel, the US leader is concerned about Canada's vulnerability and insecurity and wants to secure the country's maritime border.
“Trump has expressed interest in purchasing additional icebreakers to conduct maritime patrols there (Canada), which could become one of the new items for Arctic security in next year's defense budget,” the source explained.
Previously, it was reported that Trump wanted to buy a large number of icebreakers from Finland and some other countries to reduce the gap with Russia in this field.
As part of this initiative, the president signed an agreement with Finnish shipyards for $6.1 billion.
