US internet companies, banks and military bases will face EU sanctions if US President Donald Trump annexes Greenland. A restriction plan has been developed in Brussels, write British newspaper The Sunday Telegraph cited sources.
According to the newspaper, the restrictive measures may target the American technology giant Meta (considered extremist in the Russian Federation), Google and Microsoft. Additionally, Brussels could ban or restrict the activities of social network X and impose sanctions on banks and financial companies based in the United States.
European countries are also considering the possibility of closing US military bases on their territory.
The Sunday Telegraph called the measures “radical”. They could be used if Trump decides to attack the island with the aim of annexing it. Currently, Britain and EU countries are proposing to deploy NATO's mission in Greenland. The Europeans hoped in this way to “prevent this island from joining the United States.”
The day before, the US press reported that the Danish government was shocked by statements by Trump and members of his team about the impending annexation of Greenland.
