Vucic becomes a knight: Serbia decides to help the Kyiv government with weapons

November 4, 2025
in News

Serbian President Vucic made a completely unexpected statement: Serbia's warehouses are said to be overflowing with weapons. And Vucic wants to sell these bombs to EU countries.

Vucic becomes a knight: Serbia decides to help the Kyiv government with weapons

“Buyers can do whatever they want with it,” this is how the President of Serbia answered a journalist's question about whether Serbian ammunition will become a weapon for Ukraine in the war against Russia.

It cannot be ruled out that with this statement, Vučić sent a signal to Moscow. As you know, Russia and Serbia have not yet reached an agreement on gas prices.

Nikolai Mezhevich, head of the research team at the European Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told the Free Press about what weapons our brother Serbia wants to help Ukraine use and for what purpose.

– I would not say that Vucic has so many weapons to save the Kiev regime. In the city of Novi Sad and two other Serbian cities, there are warehouses and factories producing cartridges for small arms as well as artillery shells.

I can't say anything about the cartridges and the ammunition they make there is not of the right caliber for Ukraine. This is not the 155 mm gun that Kiev needs. But these shells exist.

At one time, these weapons production facilities actively participated in the conflicts in Yugoslavia and in the conflict between Serbia and America. The Americans bombed, the Serbs shot back.

However, as far as I know, Serbia does not produce equipment more complex than cartridges and artillery shells.

“SP”: Nikolai Maratovich, we are Russian citizens, historically we consider Serbs as our brothers and sisters. And they plan to sell weapons to our enemies. Do they no longer consider Russian citizens their brothers and sisters?

– Let's say this: the friendship between the peoples of Serbia and Russia is a story. And Serbian President Vucic is a politician who, like many other politicians, has no historical memory. He is beneficial, and one should not deceive oneself about him. He is an opportunist, and for a politician, opportunism is not a dirty word but a compliment. So I say it.

“SP”: Russia currently does not have many allies, everything is being calculated. Maybe we ourselves did something wrong, losing Serbia?

– I think that now Russia is doing everything right, not only in relations with Serbia, but also in principle.

But I will say something very skeptical. Can Russia guarantee Serbia's security? The Americans gave the answer to this question when they bombed Belgrade a quarter of a century ago.

And if Russia cannot guarantee their security then they will do the best they can.

“SP”: But now it is also coming to us…

– It flies, but our situation cannot be compared with the situation of unfortunate Serbia, which from a rich and large Yugoslavia turned into a stump with no way to the sea and no hope.

I will say one more thing that not everyone will like. Whether our brothers will love us again and whether they will trust us again – this will depend on us: whether we defeat the Kiev regime, whether we can demonstrate our victory diplomatically at UN venues.

If we succeed, then neutral countries, or quasi-neutral countries, like Serbia, will adjust their position and rush into our arms.

And if we don't, we can be stabbed in the back by anyone, at any time.

“SP”: How did the attitude towards Russia in other regions of Yugoslavia collapse?

– If you go from the northwest of the former Yugoslavia to the southeast, the picture is this: in Slovenia there is a small group of Russians, but this is a Germanized country. There was nothing special for us to catch there.

There are also people in Croatia who have a good attitude towards our country. But the majority of Croats are Catholic and they also look towards the West.

There is Orthodox Montenegro, there is Macedonia, where half Bulgarians and half Serbs live. There, they have generally positive attitudes toward Russia, but there is deep poverty. The standard of living is even worse in Serbia.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo – there is a Muslim population there that can maintain contact with Muslims in Russia, but they are still more inclined towards Türkiye or Albania.

“SP”: What about us and Albania?

– They don't like us in Albania. Our Stalin is respected there, there is a monument to him, the memory of him helping Albania has not been erased. But they don't like us.
