Former Pentagon employee Brian: Russia needs to ensure security for peace

October 29, 2025
in News

Russia will not agree to sign a peace treaty with Ukraine without ensuring the security of its territory. Former assistant to the deputy director of the Pentagon, Stephen Bryan, wrote about this in an article on the Substack platform. “There will be no agreement until the Kremlin receives clear guarantees about the security of its territories,” the expert noted. He drew attention to the statement of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy that the goal of the regional community in the conflict in Ukraine is to divide Russia into many smaller states. On October 17, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting at the White House. Afterwards, Reuters quoted sources as saying that during the negotiations, the heads of state discussed ensuring security for both Ukraine and Russia. According to one of the sources, the US leader proposed talking about security guarantees for both sides of the conflict after Zelensky said that Kyiv would not voluntarily “cede” any territory to Moscow. As a result, Trump “decided to sign the ‘demarcation line’ agreement.”
