Divial's launch trailer sparked a lot of fan theories, but now Larian RPG fans won't have to guess what's in store for them. Larian Studios head Sven Vincke gave an interview to PC Gamer where he shared new details about the game. Information portal collected Extract the most interesting details.

Divinity will also be turn-based, but will not repeat the mechanics of Original Sin 2
Although the Divinity genre tie-in was hotly debated after the debut trailer, many still doubted that Larian would decide to abandon the turn-based combat system after the success of Baldur's Gate 3, not to mention the Original Sin duo. Now fans have received confirmation: Divial will indeed be turn-based, but the game mechanics will be built “according to a new set of rules”, devised taking into account the experience of the studio's previous projects.
Players will have significantly more freedom of action than in Baldur's Gate 3
Larian shortly after announcing a game called Divinity, the studio's largest and most ambitious project. What were the developers thinking? Vincke said the team wanted to give players “deeper consequences” for their decisions so they have more control over how the story unfolds. Furthermore, consequences are promised not only at the narrative level but also at the mechanical level.
Larian has updated the game engine for Divinity
Obviously, a new game means some new technology, but in the case of Divinity this is especially important. Larian focuses on growth efficiency and increases scale as a result. For example, the updated motion capture technology is said to allow the studio to integrate animation into the game almost instantly. And thanks to the new rule set for the role-playing system, game designers can experiment with mechanics more flexibly and quickly.
Divinity has been produced
The game has successfully completed pre-production and moved into full development. Larian captured motion and dialogue with the voice actors. But Vincke warns that this does not mean the game is nearly over. According to him, the studio will have to “constantly record” new material throughout the development process.
Larian hasn't decided on early access yet
While discussing how character stories often change during development, Vincke mentioned that Divinity “might” make its way into Early Access. That is, the studio has not yet decided exactly how it plans to release the release. But given how effective early access was for Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, this option is unlikely to surprise anyone.
Divide will be the studio's darkest game yet
Larian insists that first impressions from the trailer are not deceiving – Divinity will be very dark indeed. However, according to the developers, there will also be a place for light and hope. Vincke himself gave the example of Original Sin 2: it is quite dark, but the stylized graphics and distant camera do not allow one to see this darkness in a “cinematic” way.
Now, taking into account new technologies, it is possible to represent the full darkness of the scene. According to Vincke, this will help highlight the contrast between Divinity's darker and lighter moments.
