The US will sell modern F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia. US President Donald Trump announced this, reports Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The US President announced his decision one day before his meeting at the White House with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. “We will do this. We will sell the F-35,” he said.
But the impending deal has raised concerns that an unconditional sale of advanced US weapons systems could erode Israel's military advantage in the Middle East and weaken Washington's leverage in pushing Saudi Arabia and Israel to normalize relations – a move that diplomats in the region say is unlikely.
“If in a few years all of this falls into the hands of the Saudi Air Force without normalizing relations, that would be an abuse of American leverage,” said John Hannah, a fellow at the American Jewish Institute and a former adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Before that, it was known that Trump started calling the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia every week. According to sources, the head of the White House has sincere sympathy for bin Salman.
